About Reeve Irvine
The mission of the Reeve-Irvine Research Center is to find new treatments for spinal cord injury through the collaborative research and educational efforts of prominent scientists and clinicians both at the University of California, Irvine and around the world.
Reasons To Donate
Approximately 1.9% of the U.S. population, or some 5,596,000 people, report some form of paralysis, among whom, some 1,275,000 are paralyzed as the result of a spinal-cord injury. ("One Degree of Separation | Paralysis and Spinal Cord Injury in the United States" published by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, 2009).
Research Overview
There are a number of potential targets for therapy for SCI, and scientists at the RIRC address many of these. Importantly, some of the most promising strategies, and the ones that are closest to clinical application, involve interventions during the acute post-injury period (days to weeks after the injury).
Clinical SCI Initiative

The purpose of the Clinical Spine Initiative is to create an unparalleled comprehensive spine center dedicated to providing a continuum of clinical care from the moment of injury/paralysis throughout life and providing the infrastructure for cutting-edge translational spinal research.
