SCI and the NIH
The Reeve-Irvine Research Center has been designated as one of three new national Facilities of Research in Spinal Cord Injury (FOR-SCI).  Recognizing that certain key issues in spinal cord injury research were not being adequately addressed, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched a new funding mechanism to address these issues.  The Reeve-Irvine Research Center’s contracts provide funding for two major projects: 1) to replicate promising studies that point the way toward therapies; and 2) to develop new methods for assessing functional recovery in experimental animals.  Both are essential to more rapidly translate what we are finding in the laboratory into treatments for humans with spinal cord injury.
